How do I set up a “Closet”?

Photograph your ties (high resolution - front and back) using a neutral background (an 8.5 X 11 sheet of printer paper works great). Make sure the photo is clear enough to provide detail of the ties color, pattern, etc. Try to use as much natural light as possible (light from outside) or a well-lit room. Provide a quality description. Upload your photos to TheTieXchange.com™. See instructions provided how to photograph your tie

How do I categorize my ties?

Ties will fall into one of four categories: Platinum – will consist of ties with an original suggested retail price $100 or higher. Gold - $65.-$99.99. Silver - $40.-$64.99. Open Exchange - $39.99 original retail or less + theme ties (includes Holiday -- Christmas, Valentine's Day, 4th of July, Halloween, Father's Day, Mother's Day, Corporate Logo/Product Branded, etc.). The Open Exchange may include a tie from any of the other 3 categories – i.e. Platinum, Gold or Silver but a tie that is categorized as an “open exchange” tie cannot be posted in your Platinum, Gold or Silver categories. See value categories for additional information.

What if I receive a poor quality tie?

Use the rater feedback system to provide comments about your experience with each exchange you make. This is the best way to ensure that the community is made up of individuals who are responsible and posting high quality items. Remember, all communities are made up of its residents. Occasionally, there are some bad apples. See USER AGREEMENT for guidelines.

What if someone wants something I’ve got, but I cannot locate something in their closet?

Expand your search criteria to include other tiers. Perhaps there is a tie posted in another value category that will interest you. The broader the search, the more likely you are to find a possible exchange.

For this reason it is important to post all ties in your closet. This will increase the chances of making an exchange. The more postings the greater the chances are for finding a tie you’ll like.

How do I ensure positive feedback ratings?

Only post quality items. If the tie has a stain, is frayed or dirty, don’t post it. If you deliver quality items, shipped on time and arrive, you will receive neutral or positive feedback

How do I send my tie and when should I expect to receive the one I’ve exchanged?

After a successful exchange, it is important to pack and ship the tie as quickly as possible. Rater feedback is based in part on the shipping experience as part of the overall exchange. Shipping is easy, see mailing your ties for complete details.

Why would I choose Executive Services?

Executive Service is for those individuals who may not have the time to post their tie collection themselves. TheTieXchange.com™ will photograph the ties, post them, and send them back to you. Costs for this service vary and are based on the number of ties. Email memberservice@TheTieXchange.com for a quote.

If I choose Executive Services, how do I know that you will get the ties and that I will get them back?

TheTieXchange.com™ will email notify you upon receipt of the ties and will verify the number of ties received. We will also note any damage (if identified). We recommend insurance if your tie collection consists primarily of Gold and Platinum ties. Once the ties have been photographed and your closet is posted, you will be notified by email and you will receive a tracking number to track the returned ties.

*Price per “closet” will vary depending on the number of ties.

Why would I move a tie from a higher Value Category to lower Value Category?

If your tie has been posted for more than 30 days, you may want to consider moving into a lower value category to encourage an exchange. Ties may take longer to exchange due to color, pattern or style changes which change from season to season and year to year.
